Minor Sports Injuries
Minor sports injuries come in all shapes and sizes and can affect anyone playing sports or generally being active. Different parts of the body can be involved depending on the area of the body injured. In this article we look at symptoms, causes and treatment options.
About Minor Sports Injuries
A minor sports injury can happen for many reasons: from a specific incident, for example, falling off a horse; or it can build up over time, caused by poor technique, a lack of strength or activation in a key muscle group resulting in overuse or a repetitive strain of the supportive muscles.
A minor sports injury can happen when an athlete competes at a high level but it can also happen when you are running to catch the bus. Our practitioners can help you get back on track through a range of modalities, including manual therapy, joint mobilisation, kinesiology taping, dry needling, sports massage and a rehab programme.
Conditions we treat
- Shoulder sprains (rotator cuff injuries)
- Elbow pain
- Groin strain
- Hamstring strain
- Knee pain (runner’s knee)
- Shin splints
- Achilles tendon problems
- Ankle sprains
- Muscle strain
- Ligament strain
What we offer
Our practitioners can help you get back on track through a range of modalities, including manual therapies, joint mobilisation, Shockwave Therapy, Myofascial release, soft tissue work, dry needling, kinesiology taping and sports massage.
At Skelian, we have a Sports Specialist Chiropractor (Alex Broomsgrove). Alongside our chiropractic services, we also have our Sports Therapist (Dani Cowley) for massage and sports rehabilitation. If imaging is needed we have our Specialist Physiotherapist (Jonathan Wride) for diagnostic ultrasounds and injection services.
The first step is to book an initial consultation with one of our dedicated team: our Chiropractors, Sports Therapist or Specialist Physiotherapist so they can carry out a thorough assessment and determine what the injury is and how best to treat it. The patient is at the core of all treatment programmes, and aspects such as nutrition, lifestyle, work and home demands are also taken into consideration when our practitioners plan your individual treatment and rehab programme.
In some cases, diagnostic imaging may be recommended, and we have a specialist physiotherapist, Jonathan Wride, who performs diagnostic ultrasound scans and injection therapies. We are also able to refer our patients for private MRIs and X-rays if required.
We are always on hand to answer any queries you may have before, during or after your treatment.
