Jamie has been amazing. I was in such constant pain and couldn't do my regular exercise. Each appointment has brought marked improvement - and the emphasis is on fewer treatments not dependency. Highly recommend!

I have just had a 2 stage shoulder revision operation carried out on 5th February & as my arm has been in a sling since April last year my elbow has got very stiff so after seeing my consultant the other week & the physio at the hospital I decided to come to get extra help in between physio appointments. I have seen Will twice now & I can already feel an improvement with the movement & pain, he takes time to listen to any concerns you have & puts you at ease by explaining everything he is going to do. All the receptionists are very nice & always very cheerful even if they are having a bad day. I recommend this is the clinic to choose if you want excellent treatment at a reasonable price with free car parking on site & I have been to a few other clinics in the past but not a welcoming as this one.

After suffering from recent back pain, I have had several massages from Dani. These have helped hugely to relieve the pain and loosen up the muscles to move freely again. Dani takes time to understand the problem history and really put you at ease. As someone who has had back pain on and off over the years and had countless massages treatments, I can confidently say that Dani is very skilled at what she does and has a natural gift for massage.

Really great first ever experience for me at a Chiropractor. Amanda on reception was brilliant with me, whilst waiting for my appointment she chatted and calmly eased my nerves as a first timer. Likewise for Jamie, he made things so easy, explained everything clearly and really made sure I understood the whole process. Genuinely impressed on how they handled the whole process, definitely recommend!

Both me and my husband have received fantastic chiropractic care from Victoria and she is now our 'go-to' chiropractor. Recently, I hobbled in with painful lower back sprain and sciatica, which Victoria fixed in just two sessions. Her attention to detail and care is brilliant, and she has a lovely manner which puts you at ease. I've had chiropractic care before but was really impressed by the service here. Highly recommend Victoria and the team at Skellian.

I went to see Jamie with neck problems which were causing dizziness. After just 3 visits I am feeling much better, my neck feels much more relaxed. Not only has my neck improved but Jamie also found that some of the dizziness may be coming from an ear problem. At the last visit he carried out some manipulation and last night I only had a very short episode of dizziness as I turned over in bed. It is very reassuring to know that I can see Jamie when needed and I will get relief.

Fantastic treatment, can't recommend them enough. Tom helped with my various aches and joint pain from running and also gave me so much advice for my upcoming half marathon. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and very accommodating- helping to sort last minute appointments and change/alter when needed. I have seen a few different chiropractors at the clinic and they have all been very knowledgeable and explained everything so clearly. Tom particularly has been great and got me back out running pain-free.

Hand Pain

Our hands allow us to interact with the world around us. They are a very specialised and skilled part of our body. It can really get in the way of life, especially when the pain is in your dominant hand. There are lots of causes for hand pain, check out the information on this page for more details on hand pain, causes and treatment options.

What is Hand Pain?

Hand pain encompasses any discomfort, soreness, or ache in the hands, which can range from mild to severe. It can be a result of various conditions, affecting the bones, joints, tendons, nerves, or skin. Hand pain can hinder daily activities, making it crucial to understand its causes and treatment options.

Common Conditions That Can Cause Hand Pain

Several conditions can lead to hand pain, including but not limited to:

  • Arthritis: A leading cause of hand pain, arthritis can affect various joints in the hand, leading to pain, stiffness, and swelling.
  • Sprain or strain of the muscles and joints in the hand.
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: Characterised by numbness and tingling in the hand, caused by pressure on the median nerve in the wrist.
  • De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis: Inflammation of the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist, causing pain and tenderness.
  • Ganglion Cysts: Fluid-filled lumps that can develop along the tendons or joints of the wrists or hands.
  • Gout: A form of arthritis with symptoms of sudden, severe attacks of pain, redness, and tenderness in joints.
  • Lupus: An autoimmune disease that can cause inflammation and pain in the joints of the hands.
  • Peripheral Neuropathy: Damage to the nerves in the hands, often causing weakness, numbness, and pain.
  • Raynaud’s : A condition that causes some areas of the body, such as the fingers, to feel numb and cool in response to cold temperatures or stress.
  • Trigger Finger: A condition in which one of your fingers gets stuck in a bent position.

Treatment for Hand Pain

The treatment for hand pain largely depends on the underlying cause. Some general approaches include:

  • Rest: Allowing the affected hand to rest can help reduce inflammation and pain.
  • Splints or Braces: These can immobilise the hand, providing support and reducing pain.
  • Physiotherapy: Hands-on treatment including exercises and stretches can strengthen the hand and improve its function.
  • Medications: Over-the-counter pain relievers or prescription medications can help manage pain and inflammation.
  • Chiropractic Care: Chiropractors can provide treatments such as adjustments, soft tissue therapy, and exercises to alleviate hand pain.

Treatment Options for Hand Pain

Depending on the diagnosis, several treatment options are available:

  • Conservative Measures: Such as ice packs, heat therapy, and ergonomic adjustments.
  • Medications: Including NSAIDs, corticosteroids, and disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) for certain conditions.
  • Therapies: Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and chiropractic care can be beneficial.
Surgical Interventions: In severe cases, procedures like joint replacement or tendon repair may be necessary.
