Sports massage and Therapeutic Massage
There are so many benefits to having a fantastic massage, whether you have a specific problem or not. Massage therapy can be a great way to reduce pain, stress or help recover from an injury. Most things that cause pain or anxiety can lead to muscle tension and massage is a great way to help address or manage those problems.
At Skelian, we have a brilliant massage therapist who is here to help you. From recovering from pregnancy to sports injuries, both of our massage therapists tailor each session to your needs, to help you relax or get back on track after an injury.
Sports Massage Cheltenham
The sports massage offered at Skelian always looks at the bigger picture, encompassing the different areas of the body that need addressing. We are fortunate to have our fantastic Sports Therapist Dani, who qualified at the University of Gloucester.
Dani customises her sessions to you. Using a variety of deep tissue work, stretching, mobilising, and lighter touch techniques to leave you feeling great afterwards.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage aims to penetrate the muscle or soft tissue fibres to release any adhesions (tight muscle fibres) that may be causing your pain, muscle and or joint tightness.
Typically more pressure is used during this technique, compared to a more relaxing massage, where the goal is to help reduce mental as well as physical tension. As this technique uses more pressure compared to your standard massages, your massage therapist will ask for feedback throughout your massage to make sure the pressure is just right. Deep tissue massage is often incorporated into sports massage techniques but is used in a wide variety of massage techniques available at Skelian.
Relaxing Massage
A relaxing massage always feels great. For many people it can help balance the physical, emotional, mental needs of the body. It is a mixture of gentle or deeper movements tailored to your individual needs. It may help to reduce muscular pain, tension and stiffness. Relieves tired or stressed muscles. It helps to rebalance the body’s system. It boosts circulation and helps lymphatic flow, energy levels can also improve. It helps with posture and increases mobility. Massage may help headaches, stress and improve insomnia.
A base oil such as grape seed or coconut is used and the whole body (back, neck, shoulders, legs, arms and face) can be treated. The result is deeply relaxing and gives rise to a general sense of wellbeing.
Rehabilitative Massage
Not exclusively for sporty people, if you need more of a rehabilitative approach to your treatment then Dani will be able to help deliver this. Dani our massage therapist is an experienced professional and offers a very flexible approach to offering exercises and hands on massage treatments. The massage therapist may also refer you to one of our chiropractors or specialist physiotherapist, if they feel a combined approach or another professional is more appropriate for your condition. If you are referred to one of our chiropractors or physiotherapist, they will often refer patients with a specific goal in mind. For example, this may be easing muscular tension that is associated with a spinal condition, or additional rehabilitation following an injury. Dani will use her extensive and experienced massage skills to help manage your aches and pains or assist in your healing process.
What to expect from a massage
Each session begins with discussion to establish how you are feeling and what you need at the time of the massage. Our massage therapists will ask some questions relating to your health, lifestyle, exercise, area of discomfort, listen fully, suggest a treatment or specific treatment techniques.
