Stuart Smellie is 2016 Chiropractor of the Year
Skelian’s clinic director, Stuart Smellie, has been announced as winner of the 2016 UK Chiropractor of the Year Award.
Matthew Bennett, president of the British Chiropractic Association, presented the award at a ceremony in Leamington Spa on 1st October. In his speech, he praised Stuart for his 25 years of work for the profession, and in particular the writing of a set of Quality Standards for the Royal College of Chiropractors, the most recent on Chronic Pain that was published in August. He was also recognised for his work for the government regulator, sitting in their fitness to practice panel as well as examining overseas chiropractors wishing to work in the UK.
Stuart has won this award before, in 1998, and becomes the first chiropractor to have ever received it twice:“It is a great honour and always a particular pleasure to be recognised by your peers. I also hope that this helps to highlight the work that I have been doing at the Royal College of Chiropractors which aims to promote the very best standards of care for the many people who suffer from back and neck pain. The Quality Standards are designed to show everybody, including patients, what high-quality chiropractic care looks like”
Quality Standards are tools designed to help deliver the best possible outcomes for patients. They are a series of specific, concise quality statements that provide markers of high-quality patient care covering the treatment of different conditions. The primary purpose of The Royal College of Chiropractors’ quality standards is to make it clear what quality care is by providing patients, the public, healthcare professionals, commissioners and chiropractors with definitions of high-quality chiropractic care.
