Migraine Awareness Week
Each September, a week is chosen to raise awareness of migraine as a serious public health issue and spread the word that help is available for those who suffer from this condition.
Migraine is the third most common disease in the world, with approximately one in seven people across the globe suffering from this debilitating condition and an estimated 190,000 people experiencing a migraine attack each day! Symptoms of migraines can include moderate to severe headaches of a pulsating nature, and potentially associated with nausea, vomiting, or sensitivity to light, sound and smell. It is important to understand that migraines are a complex neurological condition that affects people very differently.
Despite advancements in research into migraines, little is still known about the cause of this condition. Although there has been shown to be no cure for migraines, the pain and the effects that it has on our everyday life can be reduced and prevented with chiropractic care, as demonstrated by recent evidence (including a systematic review, the highest quality form of evidence).
Ben Evans, chiropractor, says: “Here at Skelian, and across chiropractic clinics across the globe, numerous migraine sufferers haven been helped with the alleviation and prevention of migraines. Given the distress that migraine can cause, it is very rewarding to be able to help patients with this horrible condition”
